Semico Announces Speakers for Outlook Conference

Semico says September Conference will address massive shifts the semiconductor industry is about to incur which will affect all semiconductor device types

Phoenix, Arizona July 18, 2005 - Semico Research Corp., has announced key speakers for its annual outlook conference scheduled for Thursday, September 15, 2005, at the Wyndham Hotel in San Jose, CA. Jim Feldhan, president of Semico, will open the event with the morning keynote projecting his semiconductor industry forecast. Morry Marshall, VP of Strategic Technologies will present the conference overview titled, The Semiconductor Industry is on the Brink of Massive Shifts.

Semico believes these shifts are being driven by two trends: Portability and Networking. Portable devices, MP3 players, portable media players and handheld video games for example, require lower power, increased non-volatile data storage and increased integration. The Networking goal is the triple play: transparent audio, video and data sharing between PCs, TVs and other existing and evolving consumer products.

This goal is leading to a battle between media hubs, video game consoles, media PCs and other products to become the distribution center for connected homes, autos and even persons. These networked products are going to require more bandwidth, perhaps distributed processing, less expensive if lower frequency microprocessors, and memory solutions outside of today’s PC dominated mainstream. According to Joanne Itow, Managing Director of Manufacturing for Semico, “The semiconductor technology roadmap will be changed dramatically. That, in turn, will lead to a need for new semiconductor manufacturing technologies and shifting wafer demand.”

What does this mean for semiconductor industry companies? Join Semico at the Semiconductor Outlook Annual Forecast Conference to learn more. The Semico MAP Model Team will provide detailed sales forecasts for emerging portability and networking end-use markets. Those forecasts will be supported by discussions of the marketing and technology trends creating the markets and by descriptions of changing semiconductor requirements. Other Semico analysts will link the changing technology requirements to semiconductor sales forecasts by device type. For example, will a requirement for distributed processing accelerate the trend towards variant processors in video game consoles? Will requirements for lower power and lower latency rather than more density and speed further segment DRAM sales Semico’s president will wrap up the end use market and device-type presentations with an overview summarizing target end-use product markets and the resulting semiconductor opportunities.

Semico’s Outlook sponsors include ARC International and Altera.

“The semiconductor market is changing directions,” said Jim Feldhan, president of Semico. “Continuing blindly in the same direction that you have been going is not a good idea. Semico’s Semiconductor Outlook Annual Forecast Conference can help you choose a new direction, in synch with the industry,” concluded Mr. Feldhan.
