Executive Briefs: Identifying Future Semiconductor Growth Markets

Phoenix, Arizona November 30, 2010 - Semico Research has recently released 4 parts of our 33 part series called the Executive Briefs. These briefs include 4 data-rich pages filled with tables and figures including:

• Table: Forecast by Units, Revenues, and ASPs
• Table: Semiconductor Content
• Table: Geographic Production
• Figure: 2010 Semiconductor Content % of Total
• Figure: Semiconductor Dollar and Unit TAMs in Millions
• Figure: Quarterly Geographic Change
• Figure: Semiconductor Wafer Demand by Process Node

These 4 briefs are for the DVD Player, DVD Recorder, Blu-ray Player, and Blu-ray Recorder markets. In particular, these reports delve into the various regional purchasing trends and future semiconductor development.

An excerpt of the Blu-ray Recorder brief:

MOS Logic make up the bulk of the semiconductor cost of the average Blu-ray Recorder. Analog provides several functions, including the source selection, video decoder, voltage regulators, interface, power amplifiers, data conversion chips, and power management.

The MOS Logic Standard Cell 2M-5M Gates is $21.58 and the most expensive part of the Blu-ray Recorder, accounting for almost 40% of the total $54.89 semiconductor cost. In addition, the HDD section of the MOS Logic accounts for $5.30 of the total cost.

For those charged with analyzing data and the consequential decision making for semiconductor companies up and down the supply chain, you need to know where the growth will be in the future rather than dwelling on "the good 'ole days." The Executive Briefs are the perfect way to analyze these markets because they follow a similar format to all our MAP Model reports, including a top-down analysis starting with the market forecast from 2010 to 2014, regional production forecast, semiconductor content forecast, revenue and unit TAM, top OEMs, and Wafer Demand.

Look for the next Executive Brief release that will include Cell Phones: Low-end, Mid-range, and High-end, available in December.
