The Internet of Things, Augmented Reality, and Sensor Fusion: It's a Brand New World

SKU: MP101-14

Augmented Reality is a disruptive technology that is going to influence almost every aspect of our technological life.  It is still in its infancy and is often looked on as gimmicky or promotional, but it is going to drive innovation within the gaming, medical, mobile, automotive, and manufacturing markets.

This report seeks to provide an overview and analysis of the many ways augmented reality can take advantage of current technology, and how augmented reality will force those markets to innovate to fit within the demands of natural user interfaces, privacy, and user-generated content.  This report focuses on the hardware, sensors, innovations, and market trends but does not seek to provide a complete listing of all software companies doing AR, as in general they all use the same hardware and sensors and follow similar innovation trends.

This report will also look at the forecasts from Semico’s MAP Model to see just how large the potential market is within the mobile consumer industry.  Separately, the automotive industry and other new markets like smart glass will be discussed.

In total, the mobile industry will reach over $630 billion by 2017, not including the automotive market.  All of these markets have the potential to be influenced by augmented reality in the  forecast period of this report (2013-2017), and we expect augmented reality to reshape the consumer market by 2020 through a combination of location-based data and natural user interfaces.
