NFC, AR, Sensor Fusion all at CES

Phoenix, AZ - January 7th, 2013 -- If there is one theme coming out of CES before the show even starts, it's that this is going to be a very different year with all new technology leading the way. Previously, consoles and DTVs have driven the press releases in the days leading up to the show, but now, all we're hearing is NFC this, and AR that.

Are you familiar with the new markets that will be driving the industry in 2013?

Semico recently released a primer on Augmented Reality and how it will drive hardware sales over the next five years. Augmented Reality: Envision a More Intelligent World, provides an in-depth look into this technology with almost 90 figures and tables.

Semico has also recently worked on NFC, which is on the verge of seeing explosive growth. NFC: Security at Hand covers what the technology is, what is the technological competition, who the major players are, and what the major target applications are. NFC enabled phones are expected to reach 2 billion by 2016.

And of course, sensor fusion is the new market segment that provides an intelligent overlay for all those sensors we're adding to our products. Sensor fusion has become an important feature for many portable devices, in particular smartphones, tablets and the emerging Ultraportable PCs. In fact, sensor fusion is required by Windows 8 for all tablet PCs and all convertible Ultrabooks, and recommended for clamshell Ultrabooks. Intel offers reference platforms for tablets and Ultrabooks that include a sensor hub block connected directly to the CPU. Many advanced applications are enabled by sensor fusion, including geo-fencing, gesture controls and context awareness. The manufacturers of these devices are promoting more interactive devices and intuitive computing using motion and gesture controls. Semico Research's latest report, Sensor Fusion: The Elements are Converging, examines the latest trends and issues for MEMS sensors in sensor fusion.
