Phoenix, Arizona September 6, 2005 - Semico Research, the architect of the most accurate semiconductor industry inflection point indicator, today announced its prediction for greater than marginal growth over the next several years. “This is the time of year many forecasters come out with their views on where our industry is headed,” remarked Jim Feldhan, president of Semico. “The vital signs are positive and the industry is healthy. It is Semico’s projection, based on the Inflection Point Indicator (IPI), that we will experience good growth into 2008. The next downturn will not occur until the end of 2008 and into 2009.”
Semico believes there are applications that will drive the next semiconductor growth cycle.
Semico is gearing up to present their entire portfolio of forecasts for the industry at their annual Outlook Conference in San Jose, CA on September 15, 2005. At the Outlook event, Semico will present the forecast for total worldwide semiconductor sales, an industry overview and focus on semiconductor sales opportunities. Innovation is continuing and Semico will present the killer applications that will demand the next generation of chips. Included in the presentation are expanded applications in automotive and emerging consumer markets.
Semico believes there is a new wave of technological shifts boosting semiconductor sales. “This is a very exciting time for our industry,” commented Morry Marshall, VP of Strategic Technologies for Semico. “There is a need for multiple platforms in the home, office and automobile to accommodate the digital content that is finally beginning to flood the market in the form of music, imaging and video. It’s not only young people that want everything here and now…the whole market is beginning to see the value in digital connectivity and portability.”
Tony Massimini, Chief of Technology for Semico said, “Video game consoles will incorporate next-generation platforms that will feature wireless and broadband options.” The growing debate is between PC-centric versus game console media hubs. There is a real opportunity for a new company to take over the premier spot in the connectivity market with a solution that transcends the PC.
