RISC-V to Impact Communications Segment Reaching a 209% CAGR by 2025,says Semico Research

The semiconductor intellectual property (SIP) market has become an integral part of the semiconductor industry. Third party IP has propelled the industry, opening the door for many new products from start-ups to established IDMs. Enabling increasingly complex devices, reducing the cost of product development and reducing the time to market for both leading-edge and mature products are just a few of the benefits of third party IP. Open architecture IP allows users to customize and adapt cores to their own specific applications and provide the opportunity for unique differentiation. RISC-V is an open-architecture CPU core that is garnering industrywide attention. The RISC-V Foundation was established to promote industry adoption and ecosystem collaboration of the RISC-V architecture. New research from Semico Research, RISC-V Market Analysis: The New Kid on the Block (CC315-19), forecasts the communications segment will achieve a 209% CAGR by 2025.

"Semico, in conjunction with the RISC-V Foundation, identified 35 markets and developed both a TAM and a SAM for each of these markets," says Jin Feldhan, President of Semico Research. "Utilizing Semico's extensive end-market databases, we developed a forecast out to 2025. This report focuses on four semiconductor devices which have a high value opportunity to use RISC-V cores. They are Advanced Performance Multicore SoC, Value Multicore SoC, Basic SoCs, and FPGAs."
Key findings include:

  • RISC-V will capture over 6% of the CPU core business between now and 2025.
  • The SAM for Automotive will have a CAGR of 160% over the forecast period.
  • The TAM for 5G infrastructure will reach 19 million units by 2025.
  • The CAGR for RISC-V cores between 2018 and 2025 will approach 160%.

Semico's new report is titled RISC-V Market Analysis: The New Kid on the Block (CC315-19). Thirty-five target markets are analyzed including the impact of economic trends such as economic downturns/upturns, cost of goods, employment statistics and a plethora of other data, which all impact the health of business and consumer spending. The report is 114 pages in length and includes 75 tables and 76 figures with forecasts out to 2025.
