May 16th: Focus on the IP Ecosystem

Phoenix, Arizona March 1, 2012 - In the past, much of the limelight has been given to semiconductor process technology and development. While process technology advancements continue at a blistering pace, other challenges have bubbled to the surface. The ability for chip and system designers to fully utilize the ever increasing number of available transistors has become an arduous task. Pressures to have the product designed on schedule and within budget have created enormous challenges. Re-spins not only create expensive delays allowing competitors time to catch up, but they are also a financial drain on the designing firm. As a result, third-party IP blocks have become a critical component of almost all complex SOC designs today.

We've seen several fundamental changes in the semiconductor industry over the past several decades. The emergence of fabless semiconductor companies and their resounding success has changed the face of the semiconductor industry. With the success of fabless companies, we have seen large broad-based IDMs spinoff parts of their business in order to focus on specific devices or technologies. The IDMs for the most part have migrated to a fablite or fabless model based on the success of dozens of fabless companies over the past decade or so. The most recent sea change in the semiconductor industry is the growth of third-party IP blocks. Semiconductor IP has become a critical component required to design complex SOCs in a timely and cost-efficient manner.

Populated with industry leaders, this conference will address and discuss the effects and benefits of IP in the semiconductor industry. How does one differentiate their products in a third party IP era? How does one not only survive but thrive in this environment? IP subsystems are the latest addition to the third-party IP market. How will subsystems change the semiconductor market and does the concept have staying power?

Semico's conference, Focus on the IP Ecosystem, is a premier, one-day event that will be held May 16, 2012 at the Doubletree Hotel in San Jose, California. You will not want to miss this outstanding event with presenters from all aspects of the IP ecosystem, including: developers, integrators, design tool makers, foundries, users and system architects.
