Adaptive Braking Systems: No Stopping Its Growth!

Phoenix, Arizona January 8, 2009 - Even during this recession, there is no stopping the growth of automotive adaptive braking systems. The growth of these systems in turn will drive the growth of semiconductor revenues and unit sales for adaptive braking. While the automotive market and the semiconductor market as a whole will decline in 2009, semiconductor sales for adaptive braking systems will not see a downturn. Semico forecasts a CAGR, compounded annual growth rate, of over 100% through 2012 for semiconductor sales for this emerging application. “Adaptive braking systems are in use now on high-end passenger cars and a few commercial vehicles. As usual for new automotive applications, adaptive braking systems will soon trickle down to more widespread use,” says Morry Marshall, Director Strategic Technologies for Semico. “The costs will come down, but the real reason that their use will spread is that adaptive braking systems reduce the number and the intensity of collisions.” A detailed analysis of the factors that will drive this expanding market can be found in Semico’s Adaptive Braking Systems report. In addition to analyzing the drivers of the market, the report includes five year forecasts for passenger car and commercial vehicle shipments, adaptive braking systems market penetration, detailed semiconductor forecasts and bill of materials used in these systems. This report is the first of a series of automotive product briefs that identify new applications in vehicles that offer increased semiconductor revenue opportunities. Future automotive product reports will cover hybrid vehicles, drive-by-wire systems and other emerging applications. The Adaptive Braking Systems report is available for immediate delivery.
