Semico Optimistic About 2006

Phoenix, Arizona October 18, 2005 - Four consecutive months of growth for Semico’s Inflection Point Indicator (IPI) is no fluke. The rise in the IPI points to a prominent growth cycle beginning in 2006. The IPI has shown increasing strength, rising from 2005’s low of 14.2 in April to a high of 16.0 in August. The August IPI is a slight improvement of 0.3% over July’s elevated IPI of 15.9.

Capex Rocks in 2Q06: Semiconductor Industry Capex and Wafer Fab Equipment

Phoenix, Arizona October 17, 2005 - Semico Research has recently completed a study that demonstrates a relationship between advanced node capacity utilization and capital expenditure including wafer processing equipment bookings. Based on historical data, Semico found that advanced node capacity utilization is a primary leading indicator of how and when semiconductor companies will invest in new fabs in both upturns and downturns of the semiconductor cycle. Not surprisingly, rising capacity utilization predicts rising capex and falling capacity utilization predicts falling capex.
