Phoenix, Arizona January 18, 2006 - The International SEMATECH Manufacturing Initiative (ISMI) and Semico Research Corporation this month will offer linked public conferences that will assess manufacturing challenges and evolving business strategies in the semiconductor industry.

The meetings will include Semico’s Impact Conference titled, Semiconductor Manufacturing —Technology for New Markets on Jan. 24 and ISMI’s Global Economic Symposium XV (GES) on Jan. 25. Both will be held at the Wyndham Hotel in San Jose, CA.

Also, both companies will preview a co-authored research report analyzing microchip technologies and scenarios for future semiconductor manufacturing. The report can be preordered for $3500, compared to $5000 when released later this spring.

The conference pairing is a first for Semico, a Phoenix-based semiconductor marketing and consulting research company, and ISMI, a global alliance of the world’s major semiconductor manufacturers, with each company serving as a major sponsor of the other’s meeting. Since 1999, Semico has been ISMI’s supplier of historical and forecast information.

“The semiconductor industry is entering a new growth phase which includes new product development for consumer applications, the entrance of new players in China and India, and more complex challenges due to advanced technologies. These issues are impacting the manufacturing strategies,” remarked Joanne Itow, Managing Director of Semico Research.

“These conferences will give participants an in-depth, strategic view of the entire manufacturing and product marketing segment of the industry,” said Denis Fandel, GES organizer and ISMI project manager. “Attendees will have access to the very best resources for modeling industry productivity needs and addressing evolving customer and product demands, along with supply chain issues.”

The GES will include presentations from industry experts and strategists on semiconductor business fundamentals and analyses of scenarios utilizing ISMI’s Industry Economic Model (IEM). The IEM — a unique and complex software tool that analyzes semiconductor capacity, supplier markets and fab productivity — is based on changes in technology, product demand and business cycles. Version 10 of the IEM, released earlier this year, contains enhanced analytical and reporting capabilities.

Meeting sessions will cover connections between industry roadmaps; the strategic manufacturing environment; capacity and productivity trends; factory integration; past, present, and future productivity; and product trends.

Semico’s Impact Series features the power of Semico’s accurate and insightful forecasts combined with cutting-edge perspectives from industry insiders and executives who are propelling the industry forward. Impact events are designed to provide real solutions through a concentrated blend of technical insights and in-depth market analysis.

Semico’s Manufacturing Conference will feature industry leaders who will debate advanced technology challenges, industry changes impacting semiconductor technology and manufacturing, plus manufacturing differentiators outlining the fab of the future.
