Analog Market Revenue Growth Hits Double Digits in 2017, Says Semico Research

As electronic systems evolved to mobile devices, the importance of analog products has grown. Interfacing with the real world via cameras, touch, gesture controls, audio and video applications all require RF (radio frequency) analog functionality. In addition, power management ICs are critical to the success of these devices to reduce the power drain on the battery. These growing applications have added significant volumes to the analog unit sales. A new report from Semico Research, Analog Market Update: Making Digital Systems Come Alive (MP115-17), analog sales are expected to experience stronger than average growth in 2017, increasing over 10%.
"There continues to be demand for analog circuits across all application categories. We find analog in products ranging from garage door openers to white goods, to portable electronics, to automotive and communication products," says Jim Feldhan, President of Semico Research.  He adds, "Analog products will continue to utilize a broad spectrum of manufacturing process technologies in the foreseeable future.  Analog circuits have obtained the unique position of being able to offer products manufactured with a process technology of 1µm or larger down to state-of-the-art 28nm and smaller designs."
New research findings include:

  • The communications segment continues to be a significant driver for the market with unit growth expected to exceed 25%.
  • The total analog market registered $47.8 billion in sales revenue during 2016.
  • In 2017, the power management segment will register a 14% increase in revenues and 17% increase in units.
  • Over the next 5 years, total analog sales growth will remain steady at a CAGR of 5.4% in dollars and 7.9% in units.

Semico's latest report, Analog Market Update: Making Digital Systems Come Alive (MP115-17), provides a forecast for the analog market and its segments, with particular focus on power management.  Will the analog market continue to grow in the double-digit range?  This report forecasts the analog market by 36 product categories and provides quarterly data through 2021. In addition to the quarterly and annual forecast, the report details a company profile on 47 analog chip vendors as well as 12 analog foundry suppliers.
